It's not about what we have, it's about how we feel about ourselves. If we have self-worth and self-love, we don't need lots of fancy things. We ARE the fancy in our lives. True happiness comes from within.
I have known people who talk only of their latest acquisitions. It's as if they are feeding some imaginary, bottomless pit. The items bought are soon forgotten, as they turn their attention to something bigger, better, faster, flashier, more. They want others to think they are living some sort of fairytale life or want to impress people. In reality, people are not the least bit jealous. They might be afraid for them. In this economy, you can't count on your job. So what if you are a manager? What if the company folds or merges with another company and you lose your job? What if the credit line you use as a back-up gets closed? I would rather be safe and sound while spending less and finding the happiness within me, than to spend, spend, spend. Yes, I'm afraid for these poor souls. I am not jealous at all.
How do I find true happiness within myself, happiness that is so much better than something brought home from a store? I pamper myself with the little pleasures in life.
Taking a walk in the rain.
Slipping away into a good book while enjoying a cup of tea.
Taking a bubble bath in candlelight.
Playtime with a pet.
This is just the beginning. If you have self-worth and self-love, you don't need to fill up your life with things. You are far more valuable than any thing. You are real. You are a beautiful human being, flaws and all. You have life. It's better to be safe and sound, love yourself and treat yourself with the respect that you deserve. It feels good when people treat us with respect. It feels great when we treat ourselves with respect.
